General Global Seminar requirements

To participate in a Global Seminar, students must: 

• Be in good-standing in their faculty (as defined by home faculty) 
• In the year leading up to the Global Seminar, have full-time student status (as defined by home faculty)  
• Have completed 2nd year requirements before the start of the program (i.e., eligible for 3rd or 4th year standing)  
• Have at least a 70% academic average in your last full-time academic session before applying 
• Maintain a 70% academic average leading up to the program
• Meet any program specific requirements listed below including pre-requisites before participating   

Program-specific requirements

• Students need to have completed MIDW 360 as a prerequisite in order to have a foundation in global maternal health prior to departure  

Final selection will be done by the lead faculty program directors. Min 3 Maximum 8 participants. In the event that interests exceeds capacity, preference will be given to midwifery students.  

Students who wish to participate in the summer after graduating may be eligible on a case-by-case basis.

This is a rural/remote focused experience. It includes visits to various the Midwifery Society of Nepal, Ministry of health, Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hosiptal and Tribuvan University Mangala Devi Birthing Centre in Kathmandu. Then students will travel to Phaplu Referral Hospital, Sotang Hospital, and Gudel. Students may travel by foot to remote health centres, Maternal Waiting Homes, meet with Dhamis, community midwives and community health volunteers. 

Water and food borne diseases are common in this region. Students are advised to bring water treatment tablets, only drink purified water, take Dukoral vaccine and use hand sanitizer before food consumption. 

Modest family-run hotel, lodges, and guesthouse. Some camping in tents.
